Senior Luau was tonight. 37 graduates. Um, do you know what that does to the school? So many are leaving: Angel, Louise, Aaron, Thom, Phil, Christine, Paul, Joe...my gosh this campus is so small that almost the entire school fit in the auditorium and I knew every single person's name. It's like Cheers the college version: where everybody knows your name..." I bawled during the party twice. This place is so amazing. I can't fully describe what it's like to anyone who hasn't been here. It's a home and that had nothing to do with the size of the place. It's the people and how close we've become. Four years wouldn't be enough time for me much less two.
Mark sang one of his original songs Ave Maria Girls which was hysterical, my favorite line being: "some come to get their MRS. degree and all they find are pre-thes." Mary's song was funny but it still made me cry. It would make it easier to leave this year if I at least knew it would be here in the future.
Then came...my song. I, no singer am I, but I sang a song by myself and acapello. Thank heavens it was about a five note range. It was Angel's re-written version of the classic
Bang Bang (my teacher shot me down) if you've seen Kill Bill II you get the allusion, I trust. I still thinks it's hysterical but some people thought it was offensive...oh well. I'm leaving.
Until I got to weeks five and six
I thought my classes would be easy tricks
The seminar taught us how to write
And I was sure I'd be all right
Bang bang he shot me down
Bang bang I hit the ground
Bang bang that awful sound
Bang bang my teacher shot me down
Seaons pass and change the time
I swore this year I'd be fine
I'd write well know what to say
but each paper topic was delayed
(chorus)
To this day I don't know why
But even now I still try
If I could just have half a week
Now for extension I beseech
(chorus)
It came off OK. I actually enjoyed singing it.
