Fight Club?

I just watched Fight Club merely because I felt pressured into seeing a movie hailed by many as...new or edgy, or whatever. I was completely disappointed. Maybe because it was new and edgy when it came out...how many years ago? at least six? But therein lies much of the problem, I suppose. Today, much "art" is created as a temporary relief, much like Advil. It is a pop-culture fix even if the said theme is a condemnation of pop culture. The writer's pain, frustration and loneliness is such an evident part of the plotline that it may as well have had screen credit. Thus is was as self-defeating as it was self-congratulatory. The movie whips its audience into meditating on the pointlessness of their own lives while tapping into what many people secretly wonder, "Is senseless violence as gratifying as it seems?" But its answer is a bullshit "zen master calm" which is actually a surrender of self-preservation. The story just seems to address an issue that is too big for the writer to answer; he's opened a Pandora's Box he can't handle. Give me Memento instead.

After the movie I was so annoyed but unwillingly affected that I cut my own hair. I didn't butcher it too much but that was most likely not the best idea. Oh well.

I've learned that my ex is joining the army and even though I haven't see him in about two years, I keep thinking about it, particularly because a lot of Ohio servicemen have recently been killed in action. A couple times I've decided that I should try to get in touch with him but then I think that I have absolutely no right to disrupt his life. What will probably happen is I'll ignore the issue until I leave for school when I should just figure this out, finally.

Also, I apparently broke both my feet during the show. They're not healing right so the doctor will tell me whether I need surgery before I leave for school.

Meghan,

I just read your comment on my last post. I wish I had a picture of your mom in those boots!!! That would totally make my day (no disrespect intended towards your mother, but, lol, she doesnt seem like the type of woman to wear those type of boots!)

I seriously can't wait till you are up here!! We should definitely hang out the 26th, though! cuz you have to move in that day, anyways!

Ouch. Poor Meghan :(

Memento is awesome, just about one of my favorite movies ever... but then again, I loved Fight Club as well. Haven't watched it in two years though...
